Olympic triathlon races could be shortened to sprint format as ITU President Marisol Casado gives backing

According to a report by Insidethegames.biz, ITU president Marisol Casado, future Olympic triathlon races could be shortend to sprint distance from 1,5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run to 0.75-20-5km swim-run-bike. This could increase attractivity for tv distribution, versatility and a future relay event over a similar or shorter distance of this core endruance sport. We suggested and endorsed this in the past various times in 2011 and earlier already. Full article below. [1, 2, 3]
Casado said that switching to shorter races was at the moment her "personal view". "I think it is logical because it is very attractive to TV and this is something very important to maintain the sport in the Olympic Games," she said. "It is something very important for the whole organisation to discuss."
